Safeguarding Training
All IMAC instructors and coaches must complete the Safeguarding Level 1 (Child Welfare & Protection – Basic Awareness) course before commencing any instructional duties.
This training may be completed through any recognised provider; however, proof of certification must be submitted to the IMAC National Children’s Officer.
Each Ninpo-affiliated club is also required to appoint a Club Children’s Officer, who must be officially registered with IMAC. This individual must complete both Safeguarding 1 and Safeguarding 2 (Club Children’s Officer) training. These courses may be undertaken through IMAC or another authorised provider.
Where Safeguarding 2 is completed outside of IMAC, the appointed Club Children’s Officer must attend the annual IMAC Safeguarding Forum in order to be formally recognised in the role. This ensures alignment with IMAC safeguarding procedures and establishes a direct working relationship with the IMAC National Children’s Officer for ongoing support and communication.
Any individual involved in martial arts—including instructors, coaches, assistants, and volunteers—who has regular contact with children or vulnerable adults must undergo vetting through the National Vetting Bureau. This process is coordinated by the Ninpo Advisory Board Children’s Officer.
Vetting must be completed and approved before any member of Ninpo begins their role.
Important: IMAC facilitates vetting exclusively for current members. Only active IMAC members should apply for vetting through IMAC.
To initiate vetting or re-vetting, Ninpo-affiliated club instructors should contact their the Ninpo Advisory Board representative for guidance on the procedures
Upon completion:
Coaches and instructors receive an official IMAC vetting certificate, which should be displayed for members.
Volunteers and class assistants receive a confirmation letter verifying their vetting status.
Vetting is valid for three years. To avoid disruption, IMAC recommends submitting re-vetting applications no later than two and a half years after the previous clearance.
Members of the public may contact IMAC directly to verify the vetting status of any instructor or coach.
